Black Girls Set Sail In Partnership with Broad Reach Canada Black Girls Set Sail is an immersive marine STEM and leadership program for Black girls ages 12–15 from across Toronto. Taking place July 28 – August 1, 2025, the program invites participants to step outside their comfort zones and onto the water for a week where STEM meets the sea. Through hands-on sailing, participants learned how to steer, navigate, and work together as a crew while exploring the science behind weather, physics, navigation, and marine ecosystems. Guided by Broad Reach facilitators, girls built confidence, leadership skills, and teamwork as they took the helm, supported one another, and solved real-world challenges on and off the boat. In addition to sail training, participants engaged in marine STEM and empowerment workshops focused on innovation, resilience, project management, and Black representation in marine industries. Daily reflections and community-building activities helped girls connect their experiences to personal goals and future pathways. By the end of the program, participants left feeling confident, empowered, and motivated knowing their voices matter and that there is a place for them in STEM and marine careers.
